Counseling at Sunset View

Counseling Services

The counseling program at Sunset View Elementary is designed to assist all students through a comprehensive developmental guidance program, to develop each student’s academic, career, personal, and social abilities.  The foundation of the program is to provide appropriate lessons in the areas of conflict resolution, problem-solving skills, drug/alcohol education, study skills, self-esteem, responsible behavior and topics involving social skills.

A Conflict Mediation program has been implemented as part of the curriculum.  Students have received instruction in dispute resolution and problem solving skills.  Selected fourth and fifth grade students have received special training to help mediate student disputes.

Conflict Mediation is a program designed to allow students to be trained as peer mediators to help other students find positive ways to solve conflict.  Mediators are selected by classroom teachers in fourth through fifth grade and are seen as leaders in the school.  Students trained as Conflict Mediators are expected to learn and follow the tenets of Character Counts

The counselor also works with parents and the PTA to ensure that all students’ needs are met.  We collect school supplies, appropriate clothing, and coats for winter.  If you have any items that you would like to donate, please contact the counselor or any PTA member at Sunset View Elementary School.
